CPX: Public Christianity

Public Christianity

by John Dickson

Public Christianity

The Centre for Public Christianity (CPX) was established in 2007 aiming to engage the public with a clear, measured, and respectful picture of the Christian faith and the way it can impact all of life for the good.

This book is a collection of interviews and articles which represent a small portion of the creative output by CPX over it’s first few years in operation. We hope it communicates something of the beauty, truth and goodness of historic Christian teaching, and it’s impact within the fields of philosophy, ethics, science, the arts, history and human endeavour.

Summary:

“At the turn of the twenty-first century, religion was barely in view in public life. The age of ideology was at an end and free-market capitalism had ‘won’.

Then the planes hit the Twin Towers, and as the West recoiled, it also recalled that religion matters – for better or for worse – to the majority of the world’s population.

Despite the voices of the New Atheists, the likelihood of the twenty-first century being a post religious age is very small. But Christianity, with its dominant position in the history of the West, is under scrutiny and the movement to remove it from public discourse altogether is gaining momentum.

At the Centre for Public Christianity (CPX) we believe that religion has an important place in the Public Square, and aim to counter the claim that faith is by definition dangerous, embarrassing or irrelevant. We believe that faith, while personal, can never be private.

The collection of interviews and articles in this volume represents a small portion of the output of CPX over its first few years of operation. We hope it communicates something of the beauty, truth and goodness of historic Christian teaching, and its impact within the fields of philosophy, ethics, science, the arts, history and human endeavour.”
